This is the 5th year of free Bobby Socks Quilt Company
redwork patterns. After a year of pink and black 50s dresses,
we are returning to good old red (DMC 123 or Anchor 9046).
This series will actually be a two-year series.
I thought about offering two patterns each month,
but I don't think I could keep up, so you'll have to hang in
for two years to get the complete set! I think it'll be worth the wait. I've stitched each pattern onto an 8 1/2" square of scrap off-white cotton, but you may wish to go with a larger block if you want
a quilt large enough for a kid's bed. My 8 1/2" blocks will make
a wall-hanging, or perhaps a lap quilt if I add enough borders.
Note: the patterns print off different sizes depending on your computer, so you may need to resize patterns.

Stitching Instructions:

I will be using DMC 321 (Anchor 9046) for all stitching.
I use a backstitch for all outlining, but some prefer to use the stem stitch. Any dots are done with a colonial or French knot.
A daisy stitch is also used on occasion.

Any specific instructions will be outlined each month.

After you have printed the pattern and cut out your block,
you are ready to trace. You can use a light box (I borrow my daughter's Disney tracing box and it works great!) or just tape the pattern to a window with the square of fabric taped over top
and then trace. I trace with a regular fine point red pen or a pencil. This is permanent, so you can't make a mistake while tracing.
You can also use a wash-away or evaporating fabric pen.
(Please note: The patterns print off my printer at the correct size. However, they may print differently on yours.
You may need to resize the patterns to fit your blocks.)

You're ready to stitch. Get your embroidery needle, thread, scissors, thimble if you like, and your transfered design. Sit in a comfy chair and put on some relaxing music or turn on a good show. And stitch!

The French knots on the letters are done with one strand.
A: One strand only on the French knots on apron.
B: One strand only on the bubbles and circles and fringe on the bathmat, detail on the tub feet.
C: One strand only on the dots of chair skirt, lazy daisies on chair arms, lines on cupcake paper, and details on chair-top doily.
D: One strand only on the polka dots on the dog's dress, details on the doll's face, and the daisies.
E: One strand only on all polka dots and the lazy daisies.
F: One strand only on the veins in the wings, facial features, and details on the skates.
G: One strand only on all of the details on the gingerbread girl, the roof of the house, windows, candy and candy cane stripes.
H: One strand only on small details such as flowers, polka dots etc.
I: One strand only on the writing on the windows and "open" sign
J: One strand only on the small details such as diamonds, circles, stripes and checks.
K: One strand only on the small details such as stove knobs and faucet.
L: One strand only on the polka dots on the purse, facial features (except for eyes), lilies, stripes on vest, and lemon slices.
M: One strand only on the mitten snowflakes, stripes on the mittens, and scallops on the bottom of the wire mannequin.
